We bought our first house just before Halloween here in Cache Valley. We knew we wanted a house with a bit of land (we are on 3/4 acre), tons of charm (this house was built in 1891) and in a tight knit community (our town has a huge week long 4th of July celebration and we live within walking distance to the center of town). So when we found this house that met most of our requirements I fell in love quickly (Clay, being more level headed, took a while to come around but he did).
There were some compromises that we had to make, like only one bathroom and it being over a 125 years old but these were not deal breakers. We loved the charm and history of an old home and who needs multiple bathrooms to clean...not me.
What really sold me on the house was the mature landscape. We have over 10 trees on the property that include a HUGE Pine Tree in the side yard, a Purple Leaf Plum Tree (pictured above), multiple fruit trees and my favorite two Weeping Willow Trees. Our city was originally going to be named Willow City and because of our willows I affectionately call this house The Willow House.
Our new home is a little bit of a fixer upper (not a gut job by any means) and we look forward to this multi year project. This will be a huge learning process for us and so our projects will start small and simple and hopefully become more complex as time goes on.
Cheers to becoming property owners and having a mortgage...now we are really adults!
